The new Wiltshire Council offices in the centre of Devizes will open to the public tomorrow, it was announced on Monday night.

Those attending Devizes Area Board at Lavington School were told by board chairman Coun Laura Mayes that the offices in the Gaiger’s development in Snuff Street would be open for business with an official opening ceremony to follow at a later date.

The offices will be open from 8.30am-5.30pm, Monday to Friday, offering a range of services including housing benefit enquiries, housing accommodation and council tax with specialist advice available for public protection and planning.

People will also be able to register births, marriages and deaths by appointment. It replaces the offices at Browfort in Bath Road which have closed and will be sold off.

Wiltshire Council cabinet member for resources, Coun John Noeken, said: “It was important we maintained our presence in Devizes.

“The fact we will be in a central position means we are visible and easily accessible. We also hope it will bring in increased footfall to the area and boost the local economy.”
