THE family of Joe Compton have thanked school and leisure staff who rushed to his aid after he was struck by lightning yesterday.

Joe, 11, a Dorcan Academy year seven student, had been stood in the car park at the school yesterday afternoon when the accident happened.

Staff from Dorcan Recreation Centre and the school rushed to his aid and administered CPR after he went into cardiac arrest.

In a statement, Joe's family said: "Joe is in a stable condition at Frenchay Hospital with his family by his side.

"We would like to thank everyone for their support.

"We would particularly like to express our gratitude to the PE staff and leisure centre staff who came to Joe’s aid, we owe a huge amount of thanks to them."
