Winners of Warminster Town Council’s Garden Competition have been presented with their awards at the Civic Centre.

The victor in the most celebratory garden category, sponsored by Selwood Housing, was Helen Lloyd of Bread Street. Evelyn Mould, of Woodcock Gardens, won most celebratory hanging basket category.

For commercial premises, the Yew Tree pub in Boreham Road took the award, with the Weymouth Arms in Emwell Street second.

New Close Primary School won best children’s garden, Flers Court took best sheltered accommodation garden, and Bobby Ridout won the prize for the best allotment.

Last week’s event was also the occasion for 39 organisations to collect council grants, including money for fencing outfits for youth members of the Wessex Blades and a starting system for hearing-impaired swimmers.

Highbury Youth Club, Kingdown After-School Club, the Cycle Group and Warminster Football Club also received grants to support fitness drives.
