Olympic hero Ed McKeever married his sweetheart Anya Kuczha in a glamorous wedding at St Teresa’s Catholic Church in Beaconsfield on Saturday, and a photoshoot from the day will now feature in an international magazine, believed to be Hello!

The former St Laurence School pupil, 29, who won a gold medal during the Games at Eton Dorney in the men’s kayak single K1 200m, married his partner of six years on Saturday.

Guests got to see Ed’s medal as well as the bronzes won by teammates Liam Heath and Jonathan Schofield, as they posed for pictures holding the bride in the air.

Proud father Derek McKeever said: “Everything went fantastically well and the weather was absolutely brilliant. I’m not a devotedly religious person but the service was in a Catholic church and the priest was great and the service was really well humoured.”

The happy couple, who live in Wooburn Green, Bucks, will not be going on their honeymoon until Christmas, as the new Mrs McKeever is a teacher and they have to wait for her holidays.

The Olympic champion received lots of messages of support on his Twitter account, and replied: “Thank you to everyone who made our wedding day so special, we had an amazing day, that we'll never forget.”

The newlyweds, who met at Kingston University, left the church in a 1950s Volkswagen camper van for a reception in a barn.

Mr McKeever, who lives in Farleigh Wick, said: “He was very cool on the day and they are just so in love. I have never seen such a soppy pair of lovebirds. They were together the night before making sure everything was planned for the reception.” Guests were given chocolate gold medals at the reception and the three Ed, the bride’s father Ed Kuczha, the groom and his best man, training partner Ed Cox, gave speeches.

The wedding bells haven’t yet stopped ringing for the McKeever family as their older son Tom, 31, marries his fiancée Carly Swaine, 27, next month.
