St Laurence School in Bradford on Avon mourns the death of Year 12 pupil

This Is Wiltshire: Harvey Johns Harvey Johns

St Laurence School is in mourning following the death of Year 12 pupil Harvey Johns.

Ambulances were called to a house in Batheaston, believed to be Harvey’s home, at 7.12am yesterday (Tuesday) where he was pronounced dead.

The 16-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest and Avon and Somerset Police is currently investigating circumstances of Harvey’s death but it is not believed to be suspicious.

News was broken to pupils at the school, in Ashley Road, Bradford on Avon, yesterday, and counsellors were at St Laurence until 6pm talking to students.

Today, sixth formers came in dressed in red and black as a tribute to Harvey, a gesture devised by his friends from the school who have set up a Facebook page honouring the 16-year-old.

Headteacher James Colquhoun said: “Harvey was well known and liked by staff and his circle of friends.

"He was a polite, considerate and conscientious student who had an ambition to work in carpentry and joinery.

"He had a strong sense of his own independence and was working with others over the choices he had as a young man.”

Last night, St Laurence School cancelled matches involving their sports teams as a mark of respect to Harvey.

Friends have set up a facebook tribute group. Anyone wanting to leave tributes on it can click here.

Among the tributes on the group page, which has more than 800 likes so far, is one from friend Hayden Becca Rogers‎ who writes: "RIP Harvey. A childhood friend who i went to primary school with and have had some good times with. Really devistated (sic) about what has happened.  You will be missed."

Anyone affected by his death can call Wiltshire Social Care on 08456 070888.

Well just to let the writer know, we wern't in assembly when it happened. Basicly, at half past 2 our teachers got an emergency email telling them that the lesšon had to be finished early because we all had to go to our tutor rooms. Then a senior member of astaff came round and told us. People started crying.
