Corsham will be missing a much wanted silver shine as the Royal Mail has refused to paint a post box honouring Paralympic swimming sensation Stephanie Millward.

Ever since Miss Millward’s performance at the Aquatics Centre, in which she won four silver medals and one bronze, residents have been pushing for a post box to be painted silver in honour of the former Corsham School student.

Despite Royal Mail painting post boxes gold in honour of Olympic champions, it was hoped it may make an exception for Miss Millward, who has multiple sclerosis, given she was the top medal winner for Team GB at the Para-lympic and Olympic Games.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, we won’t be painting the post boxes of silver and bronze medal winners. We’ve had a lot of requests and held long discussions, but we’ve had to draw the line somewhere.”

Miss Millward’s fiance, Adrian McHugh, said: “For me, anyone who won a medal should have had a post box painted in the colour they won. What greater legacy than having a focal point for people to see and then learn more about the person?”

Wiltshire and Corsham town councillor Peter Davis said: “It would have been nice to have a silver post box to commemorate the hard work of Stephanie.”
