Devizes company director Ian Hawkes had an ambition fulfilled when he met his Rock idol on air on the BBC’s One Show.

Mr Hawkes has been a fan of the Electric Light Orchestra since he was 14 and when he heard that the band’s founder Jeff Lynne was due to appear on the programme, he saw his opportunity.

Mr Hawkes, 48, of Elizabeth Drive, Devizes, said: “Jeff is over promoting a couple of new albums and I thought, I’ve got to meet my hero who I have held in such high esteem for so many years. So I contacted the One Show and they arranged for me to come on and meet him.

“I have named my company Blue Sky Computing after the ELO’s big hit, Mr Blue Sky, and Jeff was really interested to hear that.

“I had heard he is quite reserved, but he couldn’t have been nicer. He posed for photographs, autographed my ELO albums. He was a real delight.”

Mr Hawkes’s wife Caroline has two teenage children by a previous marriage. Mr Hawkes said: “They’ve had ELO music foisted on them over the years so they’ve got to quite like it.”
