Young woman sustains life-threatening injuries in A36 crash (From This Is Wiltshire)

A YOUNG woman was airlifted to hospital this morning after sustaining life-threatening injuries in a crash on the A36 near Wylye.

The woman, in her 20s, was trapped unconscious in an Audi in which she was a passenger after it collided with a Citroën Berlingo at around 8.45am.

A paramedic in a rapid-response vehicle was first on the scene, followed by two ambulances and teams from Wiltshire Fire and Rescue and Wiltshire Police, and Great Western Air Ambulance.

The woman suffered serious head and pelvic injuries and possibly further internal injuries. She was cut free by fire crews, stabilised and flown to the major trauma centre at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.

The male driver of the car, also believed to be in his 20s, was assessed on scene before being taken to Salisbury District Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be serious.

The male driver of the second vehicle was assessed and treated for minor injuries at the scene and did not require hospital treatment.

Garreth Saunders, an officer for the Great Western Ambulance Service who attended, said: “This was a difficult, complex incident that demonstrated excellent working between all emergency services on scene, plus well-established mutual-aid arrangements in place between neighbouring ambulance services.”
