A cute Trowbridge toddler has become a TV star, after he was picked to feature in the latest commercial for Cow & Gate baby food.

Parents Lucy and Julian Clark sent in a video of 16-month-old son Oliver dancing to the theme tune of his favourite TV show, Thomas the Tank Engine, after spotting an appeal on Facebook for new talent.

The production team were so impressed by his boogying that they invited him to London to film the advert.

Oliver stars in the ad, which first aired on Tuesday, with around 20 other children.

The toddlers are part of a ‘supergroup’ performing the Dexy’s Midnight Runners hit Come on Eileen.

Mrs Clark, 29, of Cornbrash Rise, on Paxcroft Mead, said: “We are absolutely overjoyed that Oliver has been chosen to appear in the final advertisement. After we saw the post on Facebook we decided to enter Oliver as we thought it would be a brilliant thing to be involved in.

“We didn’t discover he’d be appearing in the ad for certain until the end of last week, and then a friend said they’d seen it during Daybreak on Tuesday morning. We stumbled across it, later that evening on ITV2 and we were really excited to see him on TV.”

During the advert, which was filmed in a recording studio, Oliver, is seen playing a banjo and holding a violin like a guitar.

Mrs Clark, who works at Haine & Smith Opticians, said: “This might just be a one-off for Oliver but it is certainly something we can embarrass him with when he’s older.”

Jeffrey Rothman, Cow & Gate’s marketing controller said that the company received lots of entries for the advert and had a difficult time selecting the stars.

He said “Our new advert celebrates all the different and lovable personalities of the UK’s little ones.

“In order to showcase these, we recruited children for our advert through our Facebook page and Oliver was a perfect fit.”
