X FACTOR star Jahmene Douglas is shown delivering his soaring vocals over a mass choir in an uplifting video released by a Swindon charity.
Reach Inclusive Arts, which helps people with disabilities to enjoy cultural activities, has launched a remix of a single featuring his unique voice.
The 21-year-old ASDA worker joined in with a community choir of 100 voices organised by the charity, which had invited him to star on the track after he won Swindon Talent 2010.
The song, entitled Truth, was recorded last year but has been overhauled and re-released with all proceeds going to the charity, which helps isolated groups take part in creative activities.
Helen Whelehan, the arts project manager for Reach, said: “We all knew Jahmene had an extraordinary voice and we certainly felt the wider public needed to hear him sing.
“But I don’t think any of us envisaged where his talents would take him.
“It’s been a nice surprise to see how well he’s doing. His voice is unique.”
Jahmene was among volunteers who put the single together to raise funds and increase awareness of the charity’s work.
He impressed staff at Reach not just through his silky vocals but by encouraging and supporting the other people taking part.
The single was re-mixed and re-released last month with the video uploaded to the charity’s website last week.
Helen said: “The single is the story of our charity, which is to give voice to people to be heard and to open up people’s understanding of the diversity of different people’s lives.
“We have put the video on the website to help us raise funds and to show the marvellous work which is being done by people with disabilities in creative media across Swindon.
“Jahmene wanted to help increase our profile and change people’s lives.”
The video includes a black-and-white clip of the star in the studio laying down his vocals, which were added to the mass choir’s performance. Schools from the town also took part.
Jahmene has thanked his fans in one of his latest updates on Facebook. He wrote: “I have some of the kindest supporters.
You lot really make me smile and build me up to what I am. I hope I give enough back each time I step on stage.”
