Developers will begin building 101 homes on the site of the former Calne railway station next year.
The development, in Station Road on the south western edge of the town, will include 81 private and 20 affordable homes.
It is owned by Hills Property, which obtained outline planning permission in December 2008.
The firm says formal consent is imminent after the resolution of minor issues with the project’s planning officer.
The homes will be a mix of one and two-bed flats, and two, three and four-bed houses.
Every home has been designed to be sustainable and energy efficient.
Nick King, group director for Hills Homes, said: “We are now delighted to receive the green light for this major scheme.”
