PEOPLE are being urged to make a dash for their cupboards and then head to one of the town’s homeless charities to help restock their food supplies.

The Annual Soup Run in aid of Threshold Housing Link is due to take place on November 1 and 2 and runners across Swindon are being invited to ‘Join the Rush for the Soup Run 2012’ in an effort to restock and raise vital cash for the frontline services.

Runners are being invited to don their running shoes and divert their normal training run to finish at Culvery Court, the town’s emergency hostel, with a tin or packet of food to donate to the homeless charity. The event is free and anyone can enter.

Entrants can run at a time of their choosing between 5pm and 8pm on November 1 or between noon and 8pm on November 2. Those who raise sponsorship of over £20 will receive a free event t-shirt.

The event will help to replenish the stock of food that is donated to Swindon’s homeless throughout the winter months and the sponsorship will provide vital funds for the charity.

Threshold’s CEO, Cher Sawyer Smith said: “Last year was a great success. “Our supporters managed to collect enough tins of food to feed people throughout the winter months and this year we aim to do the same.

“This is such a simple event to take part in for all ages and abilities.

“If 100 people take part, bring one can of soup or other non perishable food along and raise even just £10 the charity can feed 40 people for at least 10 outreach sessions throughout winter or help feed 20 people at Culvery Court for at least one whole month.

“If people haven’t taken part in a sponsored event this year, this is the one to do. It’s quick, simple and great fun.”
