WOOTTON Bassett finally grabbed their first win of the North Division campaign at the fourth attempt, with a 3-0 defeat of Cheltenham CS.

A fine passing move allowed Ceri Burgess to score the opener with a well-timed deflection round the keeper.

The second arrived soon after when Katy Cox’s persistence was rewarded with an effort through the stopper’s legs.

A fine reverse strike by Tegan Buchanan ensured the hosts took a 3-0 lead into the break.

In the second half fatigue was evident and Bassett were unable to convert any further opportunities, while good defending at the back kept Cheltenham out.

Emma Langdon was awarded player of the match but despite the impressive performance, Bassett remain at the bottom of the standings.

Swindon held high-flying Chippenham to a 2-2 draw following a late strike in Premier Division 2A.

The home side started the better but twice were thwarted by the Chippenham keeper, and an intercepted pass and a free shot at goal saw the visitors take the lead.

Matters took another turn for the worse when Swindon skipper Vicki Stokes took a crack on the head and was sidelined, and then Chippenham scored again.

However, the hosts were not done and Fran Bennett ran in behind the defence and directed beyond the keeper for her first Swindon goal.

Stokes bravely returned to the action and Swindon were in command in the closing stages.

With two minutes left, player of the match Linda Brouwers sent a strike from a short corner into the net to complete the comeback.

In Wessex Division One, North Wilts got back to winning ways with a 2-1 triumph over Frome 2nds.

The visitors got the only goal of the first half when Maddie Wojtowicz and Emma Hindmarch combined to find skipper Molly Leslie, who hit a blistering low shot into the net.

North Wilts were indebted to keeper Hannah Sherratt for keeping them in front until the break, but after the resumption Frome levelled.

Nicole Dhillon and Natasha Cremin made interceptions from Frome’s free hits, before the visitors took the lead for a second time.

Dani Hopping passed to Leslie and she hit a low cross-shot into the bottom corner, crowning her final match before going travelling. She received the player of the match award.

Elsewhere, Swindon 2nds beat Chippenham 4ths 5-2 with goals from player of the match Sue Roberts (2), Ellie Symons, Ella Caldwell and Charlotte Bunce.
