PROPOSALS to redevelop two prominent business sites in Chippenham will be available to view at an exhibition next month.

Ashtenne Industrial Fund, which owns Langley Park, and Aberdeen Property UK Retail Parks Trust, which owns Hathaway Retail Park, are working on proposals which will include housing, retail units, a food store, offices and leisure use.

The two owners have joined forces to come up with proposals to regenerate the areas, which comprise 54 acres. The project is called the Central Chippenham Partnership and the owners have already hosted a number of workshops and walk-around events with key stakeholders, including Chippenham Vision and Wiltshire Council, local businesses and schools.

There is also a website, www.centralchippenhampartnership.co.uk, which shows the two sites and asks for feedback including on what the leisure use should be. Choices include a pub, restaurant, bowling alley, skate park, hotel or a cinema.

The next event is a community exhibition at St Paul’s Church Hall, Chippenham, on November 8 from 5.30pm to 8.30pm and November 9 from 11am to 5.30pm. It then moves to the town hall on November 10 from 10am to 4pm.

Wayne Locke, regional director at Ashtenne, said: “The feedback we have received from preliminary engagement has been very constructive, especially with those who did not realise how large the site is and how derelict many of the old existing industrial buildings are.

“The website provides an opportunity for more people to get involved and let us have their views.”

Chippenham Vision is working on a town centre masterplan and chairman Tom Jacques said: “We are pleased that the owners of Hathaway Retail Park and Langley Park are working together on proposals for the redevelopment of this important area for Chippenham.

“Its strategic location, next to the railway station and close to the town centre, offers real opportunity to contribute to the attractiveness, vitality and viability of the town while creating an employment hub.

“There remain issues to overcome and further possibilities for involving neighbouring landowners and we will continue to work with the Central Chippenham Partnership to achieve the best outcomes for the town.”
