Paralympic swimmer Stephanie Millward has paid a visit to a Wiltshire school that she went on Twitter to support.

The athlete, who won five medals this summer, talked about her Games experience with the 69 pupils at St Nicholas School in Chippenham, who have severe or complex learning disabilities.

The ex-Corsham School pupil took her medals and an Olympic Torch when she joined them for photographs on Monday.

She toured the school, including the new hydrotherapy pool, opened last year after a seven-year project.

School fundraising manager Beverley Crone said: “It was great to have Stephanie along. Her visit was about celebration and encouraging emotional literacy. It is good for the children to have a visit from someone like Stephanie and see how people can achieve special things.”

The swimmer was invited after tweeting her support for the school’s bid to win a £250,000 house in a Persimmon Homes contest.
