HELLENIC LEAGUE: Gill takes on Shrivvy role

NEW Shrivenham manager Les Gill is excited to get started tomorrow after taking over at Barrington Park at the second time of asking.
Gill replaces former boss Michael McNally who resigned following Saturday’s 8-0 defeat to Witney, and has been tasked with turning Shrivvy’s stuttering form around.
Having guided FC Sanford to the Wiltshire Premier League title last season, Gill turned down the chance to manage Hellenic Premier club in the summer, but jumped at the chance second time around.
“It was a case of seeing the job was available in the paper, and I quickly contacted the chairman Neil Sutton about it,” he said.
“I was asked to do it at the start of the season but for personal reasons I wasn’t able to take it, and I suppose I regret that now.
“But my circumstances have changed a little and I feel able to do it now.
“I regretted turning it down at the start of the season, because it would have made things a lot easier to have come in during pre-season, but I am just looking forward to getting started now.”
Gill believes his first task is to get the players believing in themselves again, and is clear in his own mind how he intends to go about halting the club’s slide.
“What the boys need to do now is to start playing their game and enjoying it again, that is the main thing,” he said.
“We need to get some confidence in the changing room because there is not much of that at the moment.
“I have my own ideas about how to play the game and I will look to make sure every player knows exactly what we need to do when we have the ball and when we don’t.
“I played at this level for a bit and know what it is about, and I think that is important.
“There are some good players at the club and I will work with them to try and make them better, and maybe I will look to bring in some new players too.”
Gill’s first task in the hotseat is a home game against Binfield, and the new boss is expecting a physical encounter.
“Every game in this league is tough and this is no exception,” he said.
They are a tough physical side and we will need to match them, and if we can we will have a good chance.
“If we can play the way I know we can then there will not be a problem at all, and it is all about the players wanting it for 90 minutes.”
