PUPILS have come to the aid of people in need across the town by donating a huge helping of food.

Children from Nova Hreod School donated more than 200 kilograms of goods to Swindon Foodbank through a school collection.

Lee Thompson, the project manager of Swindon Foodbank, thanked the pupils for their support.

“It was brilliant. It is really good to get involved at the secondary school level,” he said.

“We get great support from the primary schools but for a secondary to invite us along is absolutely great. It raises awareness in an older age group. “They did a great job, there was a good couple of hundred kilos.”

Some of the students have been to visit the Foodbank’s warehouse.

“We are going to try and get a team of some of the older children in doing a bit of sorting in the warehouse soon,” he said.

People who need help from the service can get vouchers from places across the town, including the Citizens’ Advice Bureau, the Job Centre and Swindon Council.

“We ask people to go to agencies first to start the ball rolling on them receiving the right type of help,” said Lee.

“The food we provide and service we provide is a stop- gap. We can bridge the gap between starting to get help and the help kicking in.”
