Elderly residents of Christian Malford were served tea by pupils at the village school.

The harvest tea is an annual event that has taken place at the school for the past ten years or so. Ten Year 6 pupils organised the tea themselves, from writing the invitations and delivering them to the residents, writing the menu, making the cakes, scones and sandwiches and arranging the flowers on the table.

The children, aged ten, were helped by a couple of mums plus Mary Roberts, a teaching assistant, and Jo Flowers, the school cook. About 30 elderly residents participated.

Headteacher Mandy Cook said: “They made a lovely tea and the children welcomed the guests and served them tea and cakes and chatted about what they are learning in school.

“It’s a lovely social occasion. The elderly people like coming into the school and enjoy talking to the children.”
