THE top two in Division One West go head to head at Rylands Way tomorrow afternoon, but Wootton Bassett boss Dave Turner has insisted the result of his side’s clash with Brimscombe & Thrupp will not decide anything just yet.

Bassett currently sit second in the table, but are level on points with tomorrow’s opponents and also hold a game in hand.

But all that is of little consequence to Turner, and even though he would love nothing more than for his side to go clear at the top of the table, he is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

“Training has been lively and spirits are high, so we are just really looking forward to this game at the moment,” he said.

“It would be lovely to go top of the table, but you don’t win any trophies in the middle of November and we won’t lose anything either.

“Every game is important, but this won’t define our season that is for sure.

“Both teams want to be at the top of the league on their own, and whoever wins will steal a march on the other, but that is all they will do.

“A lot will happen in the rest of the season, and there will be plenty of strange results, but winning this one would really help.

“The more we win now, the closer we get to our final goal.”

Regardless of the result tomorrow, Turner is expecting both sides to be in the shake-up at the end of the season.

“We will both be in the mix for sure, and we are looking at the top five,” he said.

“If you are in the top five with six games to go you have half a chance, and I firmly believe we are a top five side this season.

“Brimscombe will be up there, Tytherington wll be up there, Fairford will be up there, and possibly Woodstock too, and they are the top five as I see it at the moment.

“But we all still have to play each other and it will all take shape after Christmas.”

Turner is expecting both sides to keep it tight at the beginning of the match, but believes things could open up as the game goes on.

“I think it will be a cagey affair to start with, and they like to get the ball down and play it a bit too,” he said.

“That is not always easy on our pitch, but we will both try and play and if one team can force an advantage that will force the other team to be a bit more adventurous.

“Hopefully home advantage will help us because we have a great home record, and it is not an easy place for teams to come.

“But it won’t be a massive advantage so we will need to be at our best.”

Shaun Terry is suspended, but Turner will have Ritchie Saunders available to replace him.

Bassett beat New College in their last outing, and the South Marston based side will be looking to get back to winning way when they travel to Old Woodstock Town tomorrow afternoon.

Elsewhere, Cricklade and Fairford are at home to Clanfield and Carterton respectively, while Purton go to Hook Norton.
