DAVE Webb has warned his players that they must perform on their travels in midweek if they are to continue their impressive run of form in Division One South & West.

Marine face six away games in the next month - three of them on a Tuesday or Wednesday - with the first of these being at Didcot tonight.

And Webb, whose men are five undefeated in the league, is keenly aware of just how important it is to pick up points in matches such as these.

“We’re playing some good stuff at home and now we’ve just got to try and do that away from home,” he said.

“It’s getting into that mentality of being on the road in the week, when you are going to places on a Tuesday night you have to motivate yourself to play.

“Everyone has to work and there are lads with manual labour jobs who will have had a hard day, who then have to put their boots on and play.

“As a manager I’ll be looking for the same level of performance as on Saturday (when Marine beat Winchester 4-0).”

Tonight’s opponents Didcot were 1-0 up at home to Blue Square South Dorchester in the FA Trophy on Saturday, only to lose 2-1.

“Didcot pushed Dorchester all the way and I know I keep saying it, but there’s no easy games in this league,” added Webb.

“But we’re in buoyant mood at the moment and having just got into that top six we’ve got to try and stay there.”

In team news, midfielder Rob Dean is due to see a specialist about his ankle problem on Friday and he is unlikely to be available until next week.

Defenders Craig Curtis (back) and Danny Allen (knee) are expected to be fit after picking up niggles on Saturday. New signing Josh Fowler will come into the squad for the first time since joining from Shrivenham.

Meanwhile, Chippenham midfielder Adie Harris insists the Bluebirds are ‘not far off’ their best form.

Chippenham, who travel to Barwell in the Southern Premier tonight, have only won once in seven games and scraped a 1-1 draw with Bedworth on Saturday.

But Harris, a recent signing from Bath City last month, says he is taking heart from recent Bluebirds performances.

“How we haven’t won (Saturday’s game), I don’t know,” he said.

“We battered Leamington away because they hadn’t come up against a side that plays like us and last Tuesday (at Bideford) we were on a massive pitch in difficult conditions and we won.

“We’re not far off and I’m sure we’ll start winning games soon. We’ve got a lot of good players and we’ll get better as the season goes on.”

In the second round of the Berks & Bucks Trophy last night, Shrivenham beat hosts Highmoor Ibis 2-1.
