NORTH WILTS Ladies B side are through to the third round of the Over 60s women’s double rinks competition.

They had to come from behind before booking their place in the next round of the Mason Trophy with a narrow two shot victory as they eventually overcame Purnell (Paulton) 46-44.

North Wilts held a comfortably 14-6 lead across the board at five ends but at 10 had been pegged back and were 19-20 down.

They edged ahead again to lead 32-28 at 15 ends but at 18 were 36-39 down before a late surge saw them snatch victory on the last end as the home rink scored a six and the away rink a two.

At Purnell, Jean Collier was 5-3 up at five ends but 6-11 adrift at ten but got back to 15-15 at 17. However her rink then dropped a six and a single to trail 15-22 but did manage to pull back four shots including a vital two on the last end.

Fizz Mace was ahead for practically the whole of her match at home and led 13-3 at seven ends and 19-10 at 13.

However, her rink’s lead was cut to 19-18 at 17 and she went 21-22 down on the 20th end but her troops rallied with a glorious count of six on the last to grab a 27-22 and help to ensure a North Wilts overall victory.
