An oak tree has been planted in Kington St Michael to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The tree was planted on Sunday afternoon at The Nymph Hay, a Woodland Trust wood, along with a commemorative plaque.

Two picnic tables were also placed near the oak tree in the area which has been named Jubilee Glade.

The oak tree was gifted by Will Lawton, of Halfpenny Field in Yatton. It was grown from an acorn produced by the old oak in Halfpenny Field.

As part of the Jubilee legacy, Kington St Michael’s Diamond Jubilee committee also agreed to spend some of the surplus funds from the village Jubilee celebration on 670 English bluebell bulbs and 200 wood anemone rhizomes, which have now been planted in The Nymph Hay thanks to local volunteers.

Elizabeth Allen, chairman of the KSM Diamond Jubilee committee, said: “The planting of the Jubilee Oak and English bluebells, as well as installing two picnic benches in The Nymph Hay, will provide a long- term reminder of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year.

“It has created a wonderful legacy for everyone in the village to enjoy for many years to come.”
