With less than two weeks to go until Dorothy House’s 2012 Santa Dash, time is running out for people to enter the sponsored the festive fun run around Winsley Dozens of people have already registered to run, jog, walk or jingle their way around the 6km route dressed as Santa Claus on Sunday, December 2.
Registration for the event, which starts and finishes at Dorothy House in Winsley, will run until November 30 or until the event is full and costs just £15 per person.
Participants will all receive post-race refreshments and a free Santa suit.
Among those who have registered for the event is 51-year-old Clare Laker from Bath, who is entering to raise money for Dorothy House as the hospice cared for her mother.
Clare said: “A friend told me about it after she saw it advertised. My mum was cared for by Dorothy House and we spent time at the hospice before she died. It’s a great local cause but also one I have benefitted from myself so taking part in the Santa Dash seemed like a really good thing to do.
“I have talked some friends into doing it too and we are asking people to guess our average time to help raise money. Two of our group are going to be abroad while the race is on, so they can’t take part, but are going to try and run 6km wherever they are at the same time to add into our average times and support us.”
This is the second year Dorothy House has run the event, with more than 100 people taking part in 2011 to help raise £11,000 for patient care.
Event organiser Phillippa Watson said: “This is the second year for the Santa Dash and we’re really pleased with the numbers that have already signed up. Last year we received overwhelming feedback from participants who really enjoyed the day and the challenge so this year’s event is sure to be great.
“We want as many people to sign up as possible to help us raise even more money than last year – so I would urge anyone interested in taking part to register as soon as possible and help us make this year’s event a big success.”
