TROWBRIDGE professional Steve Surry carded a superb round of 66 to qualify for the prestigious Nelson Mandela Championship in South Africa today.
Surry, the touring pro from the Cumberwell Park club near Bradford on Avon, shot nine birdies in his six under par round at Selborne Park Golf Club to earn his place in the one million Euro event, which starts on Thursday at the Royal Durban Golf Club.
Surry, 30, earned 2012 playing rights on the Sunshine Tour by qualifying last year, but spent most of his year in Britain.
But performed well on his return to South Africa last month, finishing tied 16th at the Lion of Africa Cape Town Open and will now take part in this week's tournament, which is co-sanctioned by the European Tour.
