TROWBRIDGE & DISTRICT LEAGUE DIVISION TWO PREVIEW: Ashton on course for return to top flight
NEIL Taylor’s Steeple Ashton side sit on top of the Division Two table and they are looking for an immediate return to Division One, having dropped out of the top flight at the end of last season.
Ashton’s first outing of the New Year could have been a little easier; the leaders have a tricky away game at third-placed Bratton, who they have already beaten 3-2 this term.
With a win vital for both sides, this is expected to be another nail biter with the winners getting the upper hand in the promotion race.
Broughton Gifford may have finished 2012 bottom of the table, but they also saw out the year by picking up their first win of the season.
The villagers go head-to-head with Calne Eagles as they bid for back-to-back victories for the first time since early 2011 and with Eagles in freefall after six straight defeats, John Forester’s Broughton side have a great chance to avenge their 3-2 reverse from the opening day.
Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves kicked off their campaign with a 3-2 win away at Worton & Cheverell so when the two sides meet again this Saturday, Matt Rusling’s hosts will be hoping that they can pick up another three points to keep the in hunt for a top two finish.
Worton's last two outing saw them take points from both The Lamb and Bratton so if they could pick up where they left off, then they may leave Lambrok Road with something to show for their efforts.
Relegation threatened Heytesbury are on the road away at Westbury Town and having already suffered a 4-3 defeat at the hands of their hosts, who are unbeaten in four, things don’t look good for the visitors to Bratton.
But write them off at your peril as their last trip away from Heytesbury Park ended in victory.
The home side are expected to win, but like the first meeting, it may take the odd goal to find a winner.
