SUPERMARINE boss Dave Webb believes his players are hungry to begin another winning run as they prepare to take on Wimborne Town tomorrow.

The South Marston club’s superb record of 10 straight Division One South & West victories came to an end with a 0-0 draw at Cirencester on New Year’s Day, but the draw ensured they remain unbeaten in their last 11 outings.

The atmosphere in the Marine dressing room was one of frustration despite picking up an away point in difficult conditions, and Webb believes that feeling of disappointment shows how far his side have come.

“The boys were bitterly disappointed not to have won the game and that is a lovely thing to see, and they are all desperate to get back to winning ways and maybe go on another run of wins,” he said.

“We got a point last weekend but the boys wanted to take all three and that is the attitude to have, and I am sure they will put it right on Saturday.

“We kept a clean sheet against Ciren and we didn’t lose, and hopefully we will start getting the ball in the net again this weekend because the games come thick and fast.

“Every game in this league is difficult, and maybe the one against Ciren was a game everyone thought Supermarine should be winning, but it doesn’t always work like that.

“Wimborne are a good side and they managed to beat us earlier in the season, and when we played I remember thinking they had three or four really good players.

“If we do not prepare properly then our unbeaten run will come to an end at the weekend, and we need to be at our best.”

Webb’s side lost 2-1 when they travelled to Wimborne on September 1, but the Marine boss believes his side have made huge strides since their visit to Dorset.

“We are starting to play teams for a second time now, and when that happens you start to get a good feel for the league,” he said.

“When we went down to Wimborne before we had a bad day and didn’t play anything like the way we know we can, and not to the level we have been playing of late.

“We need to get back to winning ways, but it is a long season and there is still a lot of football which needs to be played because we have only played 17 games.

“The unbeaten run is good and we want to keep that going as long as we possibly can, but we are going to have to play a lot of football in quite a short space of time when we start to try to fit some of our games in.”

Josh Parsons took a slight knock to his back against Cirencester, but Webb expects the striker to shrug it off and take his place alongside Ash Edenborough in attack.

Dan Wallington will miss out again, with a groin problem likely to keep him sidelined for another month.
