There may be no savings if we've paid his contract in full.

Put it this way, would Aldershot be able to match his Swindon wage? Doubt it.

Has he left the club and declined his wages in order to help the club? In which case good on yer Oliver - great attitude as a final gesture.

Or has the club paid up his contract, in full or in part, to the end of the season?

Why would we pay him in full?

Earlier it said Aldershot were going to pay a portion of his wage - if that was the case we simply loan him and pay X% for the remaining 6 months

In fact - why would you ever pay anyone off in full?

If you are going to pay them the full amount you might as well let them rot somewhere - ala Whalley or Razor!

A pay off is designed to save money long term! (It also give the player a chance to boost his income so that is the incentive for them)

What is likely to happen is Aldershot have offered him a deal (bet we will her of an 18mth deal shortly) - he has then come to us and said I'll go now if I can get X to cover some of my loss

X is likley to be less than the amount we were going to pay while he was on loan so we have said yes
.
This is exactly like what Joey said about Joe Cole going to West Ham where Liverpool paid him X to move him on - but would have saved themselves Y over his contract

As for Risser - not the most spectacular player granted - but hard workiing and despite what some say played a big role in us winning the league!

HI guys first time poster. This should definitely free up the wages to at least extend one loan. Risser was actually one of the highest paid players at the club due to being given a 'captains contract' last season which could relate to Hollands wages as a championship player.

He was most likely offered a lump sum which would probably not be the total amount left on his contract. Getting a reduced wage from a League 2 club and this settlement will probably work out OK for him and for STFC it means saving money. I'm a firm believer that when a club asks a player to put pen to paper for x amount of years it is the club who is responsible and if a player decides to refuse offers to leave because they are not what he wants then that is fair enough. The club may state 'Benson has been made a good offer for 2+ years and he should take it' but really that is up to the player and if a player decides its not beneficial then I don't think they should be called leaches or whatever. The club can't just pick people up and spit them out when it suits them. The contract works both ways. Back to Risser, he was professional but lets not get sentimental: he was a poor signing from the off. To start with he was made captain and couldn't step up to it and after that showed that effort can only get you so far in this game. Holding type midfielders have to be brilliant positionally, good in the tackle, composed, and not give away too many free kicks. Risser isn't any of those unfortunately. If Bostock struggles to get in the team what hope is there for Risser? That's not being harsh just an observation. I don't think he deserves stick but he also doesn't belong in our first team. Everyone giving him a verbal pat on the back as it suits us and he's going quietly but fans will soon turn on any of the players that want to take their time. When a player joins a club and uproots his family I can not blame them for wanting to remain settled or at least local. It is part of the game but if you are signing a 2/3 year deal then its fair to say you should plan for that time as a guide. You may be there 1 year or 8 years - you dont know. But changing clubs has to be thought about and too often things in football are expected to happen instantly. As a club we need to be looking at getting the right players from the off which in turn makes life easier for everyone including the club and especially the balance sheet. It would seem PDC is now having to manage a bit more with his budget and therefore is maybe being more selective in light of previous transfers that have not worked out (there are many). Clubs also know STFC don't have an open cheque book any more so can not get away with over-inflating fees. I'd like to see Hollands, Martin, Bostock remain and think that will do it. It's more important who we ship out.

Obviously because by law anyone at work is entitled to have their notice period (or for footballers, contract period) paid up in full. Why is that notion strange?

If the employee agrees to waive any rights to payment then good for him (or her) - but they are still his (or her) rights.

Good luck to Risser for the future he played his part last season for sure. Should do OK at Aldershot although he may have a tough time from the start as they weren't impressed with his brother last season.

Got to Keep Flint at all cost as after Ward all we have is midgets like McCormack, although Devera seems to do quite well even though he is small for a defender. If Ward gets injured we will be in trouble and Aden is the successor to Ward anyway when he calls time on his career. Keep at all cost Paolo and I am sure the fans would dig deep to keep Flint here, I certainly will.

£1k a week (not a massive football wage!) would basically give £12,500 for the rest of the year if 50% was paid to him as a pay off

That could easily secure Martin and Hollands for a month

However, that amount is more likely to cover 3 months as like most of our loaned out players we will only be paying a part of their wages (that would still see us pay £2k a week each!)

The same goes for Rooney, Cox and Benson be it a loan or mutual termination - as each moves on it could free up enough to cover Martin and Hollands for the season and possibly Bostock too if all go
