THE kitchen and toilets of the Blunsdon Village Hall have been modernised in a £25,000 project by the parish council.
The Victorian building, in the High Street, which was formerly Blunsdon Primary School, is used by many local groups and organisations, including Blunsdon Nursery School, which is held there five days a week during term time from 9am to noon.
Stuart Boyd, chairman of Blunsdon St Andrew Parish Council, which leases the hall from the church, said the facilities had become tired in recent years, so it was therefore decided to refurbish the kitchen and one of hall’s two toilet facilities.
He said: “The hall is used a lot by all sorts of organisations and it was getting to the stage where you could have criticised it on health and safety grounds probably, because it was so old and it was not visually pleasing.
“Quite frankly the hall is pretty well booked at the moment, but we are always keen to hear from people who might want to use it. We have a nice kitchen now where you can prepare food, and there’s a second cooker there so you can heat food if you want to, and new refrigerators.”
The work, which was fully completed over the Christmas holidays, was funded with about £5,000 of the parish council’s savings, plus about £20,000 from the Hills Group Ltd, made available through the Landfill Communities Fund, which is administered for Hills by Community First, Wiltshire’s rural community council. The contractor was DWR Design and Build.

Who did they get for the work. I think even £5000 is OTT. The money they spent could have done a complete refurbishment.
