A CLOTHING store which has been in full swing in Old Town for nearly three years is to close its doors.
Urban 18, which sells men’s designer lifestyle and golf clothing, is leaving its rented premises in Victoria Road after a new landlord bought the unit.
The business, which is holding a clearance sale this week before it closes on Saturday, will still operate online and from its premises in Cirencester, and will be opening a new store in Swindon shortly.
Daniel John, director and owner of Urban 18, said: “Someone else has taken over the ownership of the premises and they want to use it for themselves.
“It is just one of those things – we can’t do anything about it. We are just happy that we have had a good three years here.
“We will carry on with what we’re doing in Cirencester and online, and we will be opening somewhere else in Swindon.
“The company is still staying as it is. Our online business is really good and we are keeping the Cirencester store. We are actively looking for somewhere else in Swindon. We will let everyone know when we have sorted something.”
The clearance sale, which lasts until 5.30pm on Saturday, includes stock from the store’s autumn and winter collection.
Brands at the store include Hugo Boss, J.Lindeberg, Lyle & Scott, Original Penguin and Oakley.
“There is a demand for the business in Swindon. We have got a fantastic and loyal customer base up here,” he said.
“Myself and my business partner, Nick Hovey, would like to thank all of our customers for their loyalty over the past three years.”
The store opened in Victoria Road on May 1, 2010.
“We have changed massively since we arrived. We do more fashion wear and changed the remit of the company into doing lifestyle. The brands have really changed,” he said.
The store has helped to raise thousands of pounds for charity since it opened in 2010 and Daniel said they would continue to help good causes.
He said they also hope to continue to be involved with the Old Town Christmas Lights.
