Tributes are still pouring in for former Devizes School pupil Graham Topp, who collapsed and died while working at a filling station in Melksham on New Year’s Day.

Mr Topp, 40, was pronounced dead at the Total Garage in Semington Road, Melksham.

Chris Harvey, former duty manager at the garage, who worked with Graham for ten years, said: “He was Mr Nice. It was amazing how popular he was and he would talk to anyone about anything. He had a wicked sense of humour.”

Mr Topp’s mother, Jacqueline, of Bath Road, Devizes, said the family was still too upset to speak about his death.

Darren Jones, who was a pupil with Mr Topp at St Peter’s Primary and Devizes School, said: “He was a great bloke. He was just the kind of person you instantly liked. There wasn’t a nasty bone in his body.”

Another friend from school, Sharon Barter, who lives in Charles Morrison Close, Devizes, said: “I first knew him from school and then, when we left, we didn’t see each other for years.

“Thankfully Facebook brought us back in contact and we shared a love for Portsmouth FC. I remember him as so friendly, he always loved a laugh and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.”

Wiltshire Police had appealed for a couple who were in the filling station shop at around the time of Mr Topp’s collapse to come forward, and they have now spoken to officers.

Detective Constable Melanie Carosi said: “We would like to thank the media for their assistance and to all of the members of the public who phoned us with information. We have been contacted by the couple and they are assisting us with our enquiries into the sudden death of Graham Topp.”

No funeral arrangements had been finalised at the time of going to press.
