Safety arm bands launched by Wiltshire Council

A new safety campaign to support Wiltshire’s primary school pupils is being launched on Monday.
Throughout next week, year five and six pupils at selected schools will receive free high visibility arm bands which they can wear walking to and from school on dark mornings and nights.
The safety campaign is part of a drive by Wiltshire Council, Wiltshire Police, Wiltshire Fire & Rescue and NHS Wiltshire to make the region’s roads safer.
Wiltshire Councillor Dick Tonge, cabinet member for highways, said: “This is one of many initiatives we are proud to be a part of to help children travel to school safely.
"We work hard with schools to develop individual travel plans which ensure we are looking at every aspect of the journey to school, and doing what we can to make it safer.”
Pupils from Aloeric School in Melksham will receive their bands on Monday, Studley Green Primary School will get their bands on Tuesday, Queens Crescent School, in Chippenham, will be given the bands on Wednesday with Pewsey Primary School getting their bands on Thursday and Salisbury’s St Martin’s receiving the bands on Friday.
Any remaining bands will be given to other schools across the region and will also be available from fire stations across Wiltshire.
They can be collected from stations in Cricklade, Ramsbury, Stratton, Marlborough, Chippenham, Malmesbury, Calne, Salisbury, Tisbury, Mere, Pewsey, Trowbridge, Bradford-on-Avon, Melksham and Warminster between 7pm and 9pm on Monday nights.
The bands will also be available from Westbury fire station between 7.15pm and 9.15pm on Mondays while they can also be picked up from Royal Wootton Bassett station between 7.30pm and 9.30pm on the same night.
On Wednesdays, the bands can be collected from Devizes fire station between 6.30pm and 8.30pm, Corsham and Ludgershall between 7pm and 9pm, Amesbury fire station between 7.15pm and 9.15pm and Wilton’s between 7.30pm and 9.30pm.
