Trowbridge good causes receive cash boost (From This Is Wiltshire)

Good causes in Trowbridge received a boost when the area board agreed to give out more than £8,000 in funding at their meeting on Thurday.

The Big Community Grow, The Sunday Club, Trowbridge in Bloom and the Trowbridge Initiative were the beneficiaries at The Atrium, in County Hall.

The Big Community Grow received £2,286 towards planning children’s activities for Trowbridge Apple Festival and the organisation was awarded an additional £440 to work with children’s centres to grow plants and food on the condition that 4Children, which operates the centres, match fund the project.

The Sunday Club, which meets at Trowbridge Civic Centre, supporting the elderly residents in the town holding entertainment events and serving refreshments, was given £992.

Trowbridge Town Council community development officer Maryrose Mantle said: “This is a very worthwhile club which includes all our parishes. We’ve had a lot of interest over the last couple of weeks which shows the club is needed in the community.”

Trowbridge in Bloom was given £520 towards hosting the annual South West in Bloom seminar scheduled to take place at the Civic Centre on February 21.

Trowbridge Mayor and Wiltshire councillor John Knight said: “I’ve been quite involved with Trowbridge and South West in Bloom and its a very professional organisation that has really benefited the town over the last few years.”

Trowbridge Initiative received £2,050 from the area board to promote the town through brown signs.

During the meeting, Wiltshire Councillors also approved a grant of £2,100 to pay for a defibrillator to be based at the Civic Centre.

Wiltshire Councillor Helen Osborn, who proposed the grant, said: “It will save lives and I see this as a benefit for the people who live and come to Trowbridge.”
