Lucky escape as car smashes through Trowbridge shop window

The scene of the incident The scene of the incident

A car crashed through the front of a shop this evening causing traffic delays in Trowbridge.

The Nissan Note smashed through the window of Aston Interiors, in Wicker Hill, at around 5pm.

Luckily, no pedestrians were passing at the time and no-one was injured in the incident, but the woman driving the Nissan suffered sliight shock.

PC Louise Oakley said: “It would seem the lady driving the car lost control on the bend and then ended up mounting the kerb and going through the shop. It is very slippery out there tonight and it just seems like one of those unfortunate incidents.

“There is no suspicion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol of anything like that, this is just one of those things that happens, from time to time.”

Aston Interiors sells a range of kitchen, bathroom and bedroom furniture and fittings.

Yes I think so.

There was no need to use the word 'smashes'. We all know the effect of weighty objects forcibly coming into contact with glass.

Really? A bit complacent there, Plod. it could have been a different story if there had been a busy pavement with children etc. Wouldn't have been "just one of those things" then, would it?

Quite right, merulius, if everyone went around routinely crashing into shop windows it would be a sad affair and I would do all my shopping online. Wait a minute, I already do all my shopping online!

What???
But it WAS "just one of those things"!!!
There WEREN'T any pedestrians on the pavement - no children were hurt - so YES - it WAS exactly as described.
And NO - had there been any casualties it WOULDN'T have been "just one of those things" - and it wouldn't have been described as such, either, would it??
Idiot.

Having walked past this area last night, I fail to see how this accident occurred unless excess speed/alcohol/stupid
ity were involved.

you forgot drugs, sudden manifestation of ill-health, death or ram-raiding.

Having walked past this area you were lucky no cars were crashing into the window at the time

Notscot, I'll refrain from responding to your description of me as an idiot. Slight over-reaction there, I think.

My comment stands. If you fly off the road, several yards over the pavement, and through a shopfront, in a built-up area, that isn't "just one of those thingS". As another poster has said, it's grossly poor driving and should be prosecuted. Perhaps the driver wasn't black enough, young enough, or male enough to warrant a prosecution.

merulius you seem convinced that poor driving was to blame.
whether it was or not, or whether you know it was or not, your statement is prejudicial.

Right - so it wasn't due to illness. It wasn't mechanical malfunction. It wasn't pure accident, i.e. - someone with little experience of icy road conditions panicking and getting it hopelessly wrong.
It was criminal - pure and simple - prosecute regardless?
No - it was an accident.
No-one got hurt. No need to prosecute simply for the sake of it.
Get over yourself. Idiot.

I still can't work out how you would manage to turn the car in the direction of this particular window and be going fast enough to mount the pavement and crash through if there wasn't some kind of dodgy driving maneuver going on! Maybe a driving license refresher course is needed.
