A new safety campaign supporting Wiltshire’s primary school children was launched on Monday.
High visibility arm bands have been given to Year 5 and 6 pupils at Aloeric School in Melksham, Studley Green Primary School in Trowbridge, Queens Crescent School, in Chippenham, Pewsey Primary School and Salisbury’s St Martin’s Primary.
The idea of the armbands aim to make the children more noticable as they walk to and from school on dark mornings and evenings.
The safety campaign is part of a drive by Wiltshire Council, Wiltshire Police, Wiltshire Fire & Rescue and NHS Wiltshire to make the region’s roads safer.
All schools across the region will be given bands and any remaining will be available from fire stations across Wiltshire.
They can be collected from fire stations in Cricklade, Ramsbury, Stratton, Marlborough, Chippenham, Malmesbury, Calne, Salisbury, Tisbury, Mere, Pewsey, Trowbridge, Bradford on Avon, Melksham and Warminster, between 7-9pm on Monday nights.
The bands will also be available from Westbury fire station between 7.15-9.15pm on Mondays, and picked up from Royal Wootton Bassett station between 7.30-9.30pm on the same night.
On Wednesdays, the bands can be collected from Devizes fire station between 6.30-8.30pm, Corsham and Ludgershall between 7-9pm, Amesbury fire station between 7.15-9.15pm and Wilton’s between 7.30-9.30pm.
