THE Wiltshire Schools Cross Country Championships, rescheduled for this weekend, have been postponed for a second time.

Organisers took the decision this morning because of the prevailing wintry weather conditions and the state of the venue at Grittleton House School, near Chippenham.

The championships were due to take place last Saturday, but organisers called the event off early ahead of Friday's heavy snowfall and rescheduled for this weekend.

However, that date has also fallen victim to the cold snap, with hopes remaining that the championships can be held next Saturday (February 2).

The latest postponement means Wiltshire will be unable to send a team to the South West Schools Championships, which are due to take place in Bristol on February 2.

A statement from the Wiltshire Schools Athletics Association this morning said: "Due to the prevailing weather conditions we are forced to postpone the WSAA Cross Country Champs again.

"Grittleton House School still covered in deep snow and there is no chance of the course being fit to run on by Saturday.

"This means that  the WSAA Cross Country Champs will now be on February 2 at Grittleton House School.

"Very unfortunately, this does mean that we will not be sending any teams to the SW Championships.''
