Charity knitters raising money for Dorothy House are making steady progress in their challenge to create a 1.9-mile scarf.

The challenge, called Knit One Help One, began in January 2012 after The Rising Sun pub, in Bradford on Avon, thought about how it could raise money for the hospice in a unique way.

More than 100 people, including staff and punters from the pub and knitting groups, have been making segments for the scarf to stretch from the pub to Dorothy House in Winsley.

Landlady Liz Northeast said: “We’re at 2,000 metres, so we only have 1,000 to go. The word has spread – we have been sent segments from as far as Gibraltar.

“So far, we have raised £800, but we are beginning to run low on wool. It will look spectacular when it is finished and we hope to have a big event to celebrate.”

Once completed, some segments will be sold as scarves in aid of the hospice and others will create blankets to donate to animal charities.
