WESTLECOT men’s Wessex League game against Banbury Cross was called off last Sunday because of the bad weather.

It has been provisionally re-arranged for Sunday February 17 which means Westlecot will have a busy month with a match on all four Sundays in February.

They are February 3 v West Berks (re-arranged), February 10 v Oxford & District, February 17 v Banbury (re-arranged) and February 24 v Carterton.

On the national scene the trio of Kevin Embling, Neil Smith and Ian Jefferies lost their Area 10 triples semi-final going down 19-11 to Neil Chandler, Dave Howes and Mike Woodbridge (Cotswold).

The Westlecot boys were always behind after conceding one, four, and two on the first three ends and never really got back into the match.

The ladies Area 10 national triples final between Westlecot’s Sylvia Wells, Jenny Vowles and Wendy Anderson and Marian Wheatley of Leominster was postponed last week and has been re-arranged for Wednesday January 30 at MidGlos.

This weekend sees Neil Smith and his two daughters Lucy and Katy competing in the Wey Valley (Guildford) Open Singles.

And on Sunday the annual county showdown between the men and women will be staged at North Wilts (2pm).
