Cutting it at science fair

A LIVE heart dissection was among the winning displays at Sheldon School’s science fair.

Georgia Glass, 11, and Jasmine Rees, 12, dissected an ox heart with their peers watching. They let the other children feel the tissue and explained how it related to the human heart.

Their display was one of 32 at the fair, where Year Seven pupils showed the results of an eight-week science project.

Science teacher Peter Jones said: “The kids love anything gory. It was unusual to have a live dissection – that’s never been done by kids before in the fair’s five years. It was real hands-on science.”

Pupils and staff voted for the winners. These also included Iron Man, an investigation into the iron content of cereals run by Martha McCarron and Marta Rodriguez de la Cruz.
