Police are hunting a man and a woman who chased a 14-year-old boy into Wiltshire College in Chippenham and attacked him after a car hit him on a zebra crossing.

The youngster, who goes to the college one day a week, was left shaken and with a black eye after the attack.

He had been walking across a zebra crossing in front of the college in Cocklebury Road when the car, a Ford, ran into him.

The impact threw him up into the air and onto the bonnet. The force of the impact cracked the windscreen.

A woman, said to be in her 50s, got out of the passenger side, grabbed the injured teenager and threw him to the ground.

A man, who had been driving then joined in, reportedly getting him in a headlock before the teenager managed to break free.

The youngster fled into the college’s reception area but the pair chased him.

The driver allegedly continued the attack in the foyer by pushing him backwards over the counter. College staff pulled the man away from the teenager.

The man, described as 6ft 2ins, heavily built and in his 30s, with short dark hair and wearing a red top and blue three-quarter length tracksuit bottoms, then fled.

Sgt Phil Connor, of Chippenham police, said: “We want witnesses to the accident itself.

“Irrespective of the reasons that led to the collision, what happened after was completely unacceptable.

“I am sure that someone out there in the community knows what happened or has friends or neighbours matching these descriptions.”

Police are now studying CCTV footage from the college. They have several witnesses of the incident inside the college but want to speak to anyone who saw what happened outside in Cocklebury Road on Tuesday, January 22, at 1pm, or who may know who the driver and passenger are.

The woman was described as being about 5ft 9ins tall, of slim build and with shoulder-length blonde hair.

Police want to hear from any windscreen repair companies who repaired or replaced a windscreen of a silver or blue Ford car in or near Chippenham on or after January 22.

Wiltshire College have praised staff for the way they dealt with the incident and have told other students not to worry about the attack being repeated.

A spokeswoman said: “It was a very unusual, one-off incident. We are providing the student concerned with support.

“The customer services team in reception dealt with the matter very well, in their usual calm and professional manner.

“Police were called and we are helping them with their enquiries. We have provided them with our CCTV footage.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 and ask for Sgt Andy Beaven, of Chippenham Response, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
