Thoughtful pupils from Royal Wootton Bassett Academy have donated dozens of boxes for people less fortunate than them.

Pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 have donated 148 boxes to the Rotary shoebox scheme, which are delivered to people in poverty.

The school’s contribution was given to the Rotary Club of Royal Wootton Bassett and District last week.

Year 9 manager Linda Woodruffe said: “We are into our third year of doing this now.

“The pupils are very enthusiastic about it. Some of them completed boxes at primary school and they were pleased to get the opportunity to do it again.

“Quite often the boxes are the first time the child has ever received a gift in their life, so it is quite poignant.

“The Rotary Club was delighted with the pupils’ contribution.”

Some boxes contained toys while others were packed with household items.

Boxes also contained toiletries and educational items, which had all been chosen and packed by the pupils.
