SUPERMARINE have added two new faces on board and one of them made a fleeting appearance in the 1-0 Division One South &West victory at Cinderford.

Left-sided midfielder Ben Whitehead has come in from Abingdon United and played the final quarter of an hour at the weekend, while right-back Mani Randhawa has also arrived from local rivals Chippenham.

Randhawa turned out for New College in the Hellenic League on Saturday but is expected to play a part in the 2011/12 Wiltshire Premier Shield final at home to Salisbury on Wednesday.

Jamie Prictor directed home the only goal of the game after six minutes as Supermarine returned to action at the Causeway Ground following a three-week break on Saturday.

Marine boss Dave Webb said: “It wasn’t a game for the purist but we showed real quality in terms of keeping the ball out of the net.

“Kent (Kauppinen) in goal made three very good saves and the back four were very strong. Usually that goes unnoticed but it’s been the basis for our success.

“The whole back four were superb and although Craig Curtis is the least experienced, he was probably the pick of them.”

On his two new signings, Webb added: “We’ve got two really good young players to come into the squad.

“I tried to get Ben earlier in the season but it didn’t happen.

“He did well on Saturday and put in a great cross for Ash (Edenborough) that the keeper smothered.

“Mani has not had a great deal of opportunity at Chippenham this year, but we thought he’d be a good player to get in with Dan Wallington out for the season.

“Until this weekend we had no cover in that position.”

Elsewhere in the division, Cirencester skipper Jamie Reid enjoyed an eventful return to action following a broken leg as his side stunned league leaders Hungerford 1-0.

Reid hit home a glorious 28th-minute volley but either side of that received two yellow cards, meaning the Centurions had to play almost the entire second half with 10 men.

However, the visitors held on and gave fuel to the theory that their play-off hopes are still very much alive.

In the Southern Premier, Chippenham’s league season took another turn for the worse following a 7-1 home hammering at the hands of Bideford.

Banned boss Nathan Rudge looked on powerless from the stands as the Bluebirds were humiliated on their own turf, with Adie Harris’ dismissal only making a bad day worse.

Chippenham have not won in the league since December 1 and are only eight points clear of the relegation zone in 16th.

Kevin Squire, Aaron Harper-Penman and Matty Bye gave Bideford a 3-0 lead at the break.

Tom Knighton pulled one back on 51 minutes but Sean Downing got the visitors’ fourth and Harris was then shown his second yellow card for a challenge on Matt Andrew.

Further efforts from Downing, Andrew and Squire completed a miserable afternoon for Chippenham.
