A Malmesbury band has raised more than £1,000 from fans in the hope of recording in a star-studded venue.

The Home Fires has been performing in folk and acoustic clubs since its formation in 2010 and has gained a strong, ever-growing following and reputation.

The core of the band consists of Nikki Capp and Will Lawton on vocals, and Neil Muttock on guitar. Cellist Bethany Porter regularly joins for live performances.

Mr Muttock said: “Everything’s going really well.

“In the last year we’ve been trying to figure out the best way to do an album.

“Will and I have done a lot of recording in the past but for The Home Fires we need to find the best way to record a live album.”

The band has been offered the opportunity to record at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, previously used by artists including Beyoncé Knowles, Tom Jones and Take That.

In order to accept the offer, The Home Fires must raise £3,500 before Valentine’s Day.

Mr Muttock said: “We’ve got a little window to do it in; it’s all happened a bit fast.

“We’re on a bit of a campaign trail to play as much as we can and spread the word and we’re hoping to get enough of a following.

“The good thing is this opportunity means we’ll get the album out a lot quicker.

“Two to three days in the studio and we’ll get the majority done.”

The trio is collecting money from pre-orders of the album and dates for gigs.

Mr Muttock said: “People are backing us as well as pre-ordering the album.

“It’s quite nerve-wracking but we’re blown away by the support so far.”
