Wiltshire Police have today renewed their warning to motorists to take care after a morning of problems on the roads caused by black ice. Between 4.51am and 8.30am today Wiltshire Police received 12 reports of black ice.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “A number of minor injuries were reported as cars slid on the ice. Fortunately no one is believed to have been seriously hurt.

“We would encourage drivers to check the local weather forecast and to try, where possible, to avoid country lanes which can be particularly hazardous in icy conditions.”

Among the problems reported were: 6.33am, A361 Seend towards Devizes, icy on hill where water has drained from field; 7.18am, B4109, Bradbury Hill, Coleshill, vehicle rolled on ice; 7.29am, A360 Tilshead, southbound towards Salisbury, vehicle in ditch; 7.43am, A360, Shrewton to Tilshead, icy; 7.43am, lane by the Plough, Kington St Michael, vehicle rolled; 7.44am, A360 Tilshead, car swerved on black ice; 8.27am, B4042, Royal Wootton Bassett, near Baynards Ash Farm, ice due to burst water main and 8.28am, New Road, Forest Lane, Lacock, four vehicle crash, two people injured, road closed at junction with Bowden Hill.
