SUTTON Veny racehorse Medicean Man claimed Britain’s first win of 2013 in Dubai last week.

The horse, the stable star at Horses First Racing and trained by Australian born Jeremy Gask claimed the $175,000 5f Dubal Excellence Trophy sprint prize, winning in 57.13 seconds.

Medicean Man has won more than £175,000 in prize money, with his previous most notable run coming at Royal Ascot in July in the Group One Kings Stand Stakes where he finished fourth.

Amelia Griffiths, from the Horses First Racing yard, said: “He is a horse who thrives in the sunshine and, after receiving a BHA rating of 107, Dubai seemed like the perfect option for the horse.’’

The horse left Britain on January 6 for the prestigious Dubai World Cup Carnival and despite being drawn in the notoriously tricky stall one, was soon travelling sweetly under Harry Bentley before taking up the running two furlongs out.

The horse is now likely to be aimed for one of the one million dollar-plus sprint races on Dubai’s World Cup Night on March 30 – the richest night of racing in the world.
