Lacock road closed overnight

A road which saw a three-vehicle collision today has been closed overnight due to safety fears.

Two people suffered minor head injuries in a three-vehicle collision on Forest Lane, near Lacock at about 8.30am this morning.

It is believed the accident was caused by a burst drain, the water from which then froze on the road as black ice. All involved were treated on the scene by paramedics.

The through road to Melksham has been closed since the accident and will be closed overnight due to bad road conditions and sheet ice.

No, it wasn't caused by a burst drain. It occurred because motorists couldn't drive according to the conditions.

I totally agree, I notioce this morning the ditches have all been dug out. There has been standing water on that road for weeks. Why do we have to wait for an accident to happen before these things get sorted.

Speak for yourself. If I had known an accident was about to happen for weeks beforehand I would have phoned the council.

You appear to write that you agree with the previous comments about the DRIVERS being responsible - rather than the road conditions being the cause of the accident. Then you go on to state that the ditches have just been cleared and how the standing water had been there for weeks!
You want to have your cake and eat it?

This happened due to the road not being gritted by the council! Not the drivers driving badly, one of the victims of this accident is a family member and the police informed all relevant parties to make a complaint to the council! It was black ice and could have been a very serious accident had the drivers involved not been driving carefully! It was horrendous to walk along the road let alone drive along it, so people shouldn't judge others based on their own opinions! Unfortunately there are a number of people that do drive badly but not everyone should be accused without knowing the full facts!
