Children of all ages are sure to have a flipping good time taking part in Trowbridge’s annual pancake race on Tuesday.

Organisers hope to have a huge crowd at the Shrove Tuesday event, which will be running during the half-term school holidays.

There will be separate races for children, men and women, as well as a relay along Fore Street.

Registration opens at 10am and events start at 10.30am.

Trowbridge Town Council community development officer Maryrose Mantle said: “We are really looking forward to this event and we are really hopeful to get big numbers this year, because of the school holidays.

“For anyone thinking of taking part, I’d say, come along and have some fun. People of all ages and abilities can take part.

“It will be a great event for parents and their children to get involved in.”

All entrants will get a certificate and trophies will go to the first, second and third places in each category.

Mrs Mantle said: “Nobody will go home empty-handed and we’ll be giving out some free lollipops during the event.”

The participants will be cheered on by Mayor John Knight and Trowbridge town crier Trevor Heeks.

In Bradford on Avon, the annual fancy dress themed pancake race will take place on the historic town bridge at 4pm on Shrove Tuesday, while there will also be a children’s event at 3pm in Lamb Yard.

Jackie Allan, of Piha Surf and Ski Wear, is organising the adults’ and children’s pancake races. For more details, call 01225 309383.
