A husband led a team of fundraisers to a £2,500 total as heads were shaved in tribute to his wife’s cancer battle.

The Staverton Big Shave will support the £5 million campaign to build a new cancer care unit at Royal United Hospital in Bath.

Jeremy Russon, 43, organised the event at the Old Bear Inn on Saturday, as a tribute to his wife, Debbie, 42, who was diagnosed with cancer last September.

During The Big Shave, Mr Russon was supported by a group of friends and relatives, who all had their hair shaved off.

He said: “Our £1,500 target was well and truly smashed. So far, we have raised £1,900 on the website, over £500 was raised on the day and a few hundred more from people collecting, such as my nephew Tom who has raised over £100 and had his legs and chest waxed in the pub.”

Mrs Russon has had two operations and is still receiving treatment at the RUH. To donate to the Big Shave team, visit www.just giving.com/TheBigShaveat TheBear
