Wiltshire's chance to nominate hospital heroes

Managers at the Great Western Hospital (GWH), Swindon, are asking for nominations from the public for its annual staff excellence awards.

As well as at GWH, staff work in the community hospitals of Wiltshire, including in Trowbridge, Warminster, Melksham and Chippenham, and at the maternity unit at the Royal United Hospital, Bath.

Last year, GWH introduced a new acolade– the People’s Choice Award – designed to recognise the real difference staff can make to patients.

The nomination forms are on the hospital website – www.gwh.nhs.uk – or, for details, call 01793 604431. The deadline for entries is March 8.

I don't want to detract from this, but why does the headline refer to heroes? This is surely an overused word these days. Doesn't it mean people who have risked their lives to save others?
