AN early goal from Mike Perrott and resolute defence for much of the match gave Frome Town an excellent away victory at St Neots Town last weekend.

The fourth minute saw Frome take the lead as a Dean Evans ball was chipped into the area, Jack Giddens failed to gather cleanly and Dave Gilroy cleverly rolled the ball into the path of Mike Perrott, who fired home cleanly to give the visitors a great start.

St Neots' first chance of the match came in the 12th minute as Ben Mackey let fly from outside the box but Darren Chitty was quickly down to save comfortably.

Lewis Hilliard was causing problems on the left and Tom Evans had to be quick and decisive to intercept and clear in the 26th, and a minute later a Hilliard free kick landed on the roof of the net.

A golden chance presented itself for the hosts in the 34th minute as Hilliard produced a perfect cross that saw Mackey hit the side netting from close range, but then Frome almost increased their lead on the stroke of half-time as a Josh Brigham free-kick just cleared the far post.

The second half started with Matt Smith hitting a curling shot that was just deflected wide, and the midfielder headed home a Darren Jefferies cross in the 56th minute only for the goal to be disallowed for offside.

Finally, after a even second half that saw both sides have their moments, Dan Jacob could have pinched a point for St Neots in the 90th minute as a through ball put him clean through on goal, but his shot went wide and Frome celebrated a hard fought win.

Darren Perrin's side travel to Weymouth on Tuesday evening.
