Bowood collected two prizes at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards ceremony, held at Cornwall’s Eden Project on February 8.

The awards are the official tourism awards for the region and they also form the regional heat of the national VisitEngland awards to which Bowood will now progress.

The hotel, spa and golf resort won gold in the business tourism category and bronze as large hotel of the year. It was the only Wiltshire name among four double triumphs announced on the night.

This is the first time Bowood has won the business tourism award and the second time it has won bronze in the large hotel of the year category.

The awards were presented to Frances Charman, business development manager, and Hayley Potter, head of sales and marketing.

Bowood Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort was opened by the Duchess of Cornwall in 2009 and sits in the western corner of a 2,000 acre grade I listed park designed by Capability Brown.

The resort’s 18-hole championship golf course is a mile away from Bowood House, a three-storey hotel with 37 bedrooms, six suites, the Shelburne Restaurant and bBar and two lounges.

The 12,000 square foot Kerry Suite is also regularly used for conferences, meetings, product launches, banqueting events, civil wedding ceremonies and receptions.

Bowood’s owner, Lord Lansdowne, said: “It was a tremendous honour to gain bronze in the large hotel of the year category last year.

“To repeat this a year later and also gain the gold for business tourism certainly highlights Bowood’s consistency of performance and on-going endeavours to build upon success.

“At the same time the gold and bronze wins at this year’s awards also reveal Bowood’s appeal for the leisure guest and corporate client equally.

“My greatest of thanks and congratulations go out to general manager Charles Morgan and every member of the team at Bowood whose tireless hard work and professionalism have led to these results.”
